Actually, it would be more correct to speak about singularities
instead of faults of the wood, since the majority they answer to
almost inevitable characteristics of the process of growth of the
tree or of own sawed.
The evaluation
of these faults is realized by means of the procedure of classification,
that they change depending on the country. The methods of classification
can be visual (today they are the more widespread) or mechanics,
of more recent introduction, which allow to automate completely
the process.
The development
of new products with structural applications, is orientated to an
elimination of the influence of the faults in the resistance of
the wood. The laminated wood, when using sheets of small thickness,
limits the influence of the fault to the thickness of the sheet.
The microlaminated wood pursues the same effect, reducing the thickness
of the sheets to a few millimeters. The plywood board adds to this
objective, an average of its properties in the plane of the board,
on being formed sticking sheets of wood in such a way that the fibers
of two consecutive sheets form an angle of 90º.
